Chun-Yuan Lin joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at Chang Gung University as an assistant professor in 2007. His research interests are in the areas of parallel and distributed computing and bioinformatics. In 2008, he established the “Parallel Processing and Computational Biology” laboratory and collaborated with other partners from different research fields. In recent years, his team research has been focusing on (1) developing high performance tools for next-generation sequencing applications, such as FRESCO-series tools for small RNA identification; (2) constructing several 3D-QSAR models and then using these models to screen potential inhibitors for cancer-related genes, e.g., FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3; (3) re-designing bioinformatics tools based on graphics processing units, such as GPU-REMuSiC for constrain multiple sequence alignments; (4) analyzing and predicting important resides for Influenza A virus and  enterovirus by using sequence, secondary structure and 3D structure information. In the future, he would like to design new tools for genome assembly and metagenomics applications, and analyze the relationship of small RNAs and cancers. He is also interested in applying the experiences of 3D-QSAR model generations to cosmetic science, and to designing high performance tools for protein structure simulations and model generations.
