Research theme:

Dr. Horng’s research focuses mainly on the molecular interactions between RNA viruses and host cells, and on the development of compounds active against influenza virus and enterovirus 71. There is a special emphasis on the regulation of cellular response to viral replication. These studies will elucidate the molecular basis of viral replication.

*Development and molecular study antiviral drugs against influenza virus and enterovirus 71 and their efficacy in animal models.

*Molecular mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum response induced and modulated by enterovirus 71

*Communal host factors required for (+) RNA virus replication, including enterovirus 71 and hepatitis C virus.

*Regulation of enterovirus 71 replication by cellular microRNA and its target identification by proteomic approach.

*Development and molecular study of antiviral drugs against influenza virus
